S.O.R.T
The Laurens County Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T) was formed to provide specialized units capable of responding anywhere within the County of Laurens and its municipalities. The (S.O.R.T) is currently operating 3 divisions (Hazardous Materials Response – Technical Rescue – Search & Rescue) with 3 more divisions (Swiftwater Rescue – Collapse/Shoring Rescue – Dive Rescue) currently under development. The team operates under the county council, an advisory committee, and the county Emergency Management Agency. Each team has a team leader and assistant team leader. The Hazardous Materials Response division has team members trained from the Haz-Mat operations level to Haz-Mat Technician. The Haz-Mat division operates with a 33ft self contained trailer with onboard command center and equipment ranging from containment to entry.

Both the Technical Rescue and Search & Rescue Teams also operate with team leaders and assistant team leaders. Both teams currently operate with a 20ft trailer with equipment ranging from ropes and harnesses to maps and GPS units on board.

Currently the funding of the entire team is handled by the county fire and EMS budgets along with grants when available. Anyone who is interested in joining any one of the divisions can pick up an application, a Memorandum of Understanding, and a S.L.E.D. background check form from the Emergency Management Office, located at 321 S.
